Job Description: Health Care Psychologist
Position Summary: The Health Care Psychologist provides psychological assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to patients in a healthcare setting. This role focuses on integrating psychological principles with physical health care to promote overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessment and Diagnosis:
- Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations.
- Use standardized testing and clinical interviews to diagnose mental health conditions.
- Collaborate with medical professionals to assess the psychological impact of physical health issues.
- Treatment Planning:
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient assessments.
- Employ evidence-based therapeutic techniques, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and other modalities.
- Patient Care:
- Provide direct therapeutic interventions to patients, including individual and group therapy.
- Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as necessary.
- Educate patients and families about mental health issues and treatment options.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
- Participate in case conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Research and Education:
- Stay current with research and developments in health psychology.
- Conduct or participate in research projects related to psychological aspects of health care.
- Provide training and education to healthcare staff on psychological issues impacting patient care.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and ethical standards.
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in Psychology (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) from an accredited program.
- Licensure as a psychologist in the state of practice.
- Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of mental health policies and regulations.
